Throughout history, humanity has sought to understand the origins of the universe, the emergence of life, and the fundamental principles that govern nature. Natural science has been a driving force behind the advancement of human civilization in this enduring pursuit of knowledge.
Seoul National University's College of Natural Sciences comprises five schools (Mathematical Sciences, Physics and Astronomy, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, and Earth and Environmental Sciences), three departments (Statistics, Brain and Cognitive Sciences, and Science Studies), and five interdisciplinary graduate programs (Genetic Engineering, Neuroscience, Bioinformatics, Computational Sciences and Technology, and Information Security and Privacy).
Faculty members, students, and researchers across these disciplines conduct fundamental research to uncover the principles of nature, as well as cross-disciplinary research to address the complex challenges of the future. Through these efforts, the College has consistently played a vital role in advancing natural sciences in Korea and nurturing the next generation of scientific talent.
Today, amid rapid advances in artificial intelligence, advanced biotechnology, climate change, and data science, the importance of basic science continues to grow. A deep understanding of nature and scientific thinking forms the foundation of technological and industrial innovation. While remaining firmly committed to the value of fundamental research, the College seeks to expand research beyond traditional academic boundaries and nurture future leaders with creativity and a spirit of challenge.
We are also committed to fostering an educational and research environment where students and researchers can freely ask questions, pursue their curiosity, and grow. Building on our world-class research capabilities, we will continue to cultivate an academic community that contributes to addressing the challenges facing humanity and society.
