Research Institute of Basic Sciences was established for the purpose of supporting research and education in basic sciences and revitalizing industry-university cooperation. The institute carries out various projects promoting research and is striving to meet the original purpose of its establishment.

About 40 professors from various fields including those from Faculty of Biological Sciences, College of Medicine, College of Pharmacy, College of Engineering, Graduate School of Dentistry and Graduate School of Convergence Science and Technology are conducting mutual, joint research to lead the field of biomedical engineering. Also, the institute is performing its mission as a start-up incubator by supporting and nurturing venture companies in the field of biomedical engineering with 7 companies currently located there.
